I love art. Art is my career… my hobby… my obsession. I love art that makes me smile, makes other people smile. My art is not complicated, it’s seriously fun.

As a young child Curt Krob knew that art was his calling. And though he pursued a professional art career in graphic art and was an art director for 49 years, he is probably best known for his large-scale sand sculptures at events across the Midwest.

For 17 years the “Mystic Sand Sculptor” had been described as a fixture at the Smoky Hill River Festival in Salina, KS. Other events include Artsplash Festival of the Arts-Sioux City, IA, Union Station-KCMO, and Kansas City Museum of Natural HIstory-KCMO, and numerous festivals, science fairs, and celebrations.

Unfortunately, a back injury in 2007 prevented Curt from continuing the intensely physical art of sand sculpting. But, that didn’t and couldn’t stop him from creating. Following that setback, much lighter materials emerged with papier-mache, styrofoam, and polymer clay to become his medium of choice today.

Today, Curt shows his work and demonstrates his self-developed technique of papier-mache and whimsical art at festivals, schools, galleries, and shows. He also speaks regularly at high schools for career planning; sharing his experiences in fine arts, graphic arts, and commercial printing and publishing.

A member of Salina Art Center, he is also active in Salina Arts & Humanities Arts Infusion Program as a local teaching artist where he works with middle-school, and high school students.

Curt’s interest in cartooning and trying new stuff keeps his art fresh and fun. He aims to make his art enjoyable for children of ALL ages. It’s sure to bring a smile to your face.
