Barbara Haynes grew up on the high plains of western Kansas surrounded by prairie landscapes and colorful sunsets. With nature as inspiration, she works in acrylics and mixed media. She believes art is about creative expressions and pushing boundaries beyond the literal. Through the use of various textures, colors, and techniques, she aims to create pieces that evoke emotion and inspire imagination. Haynes’ work is shown at the Carriage Factory Art Gallery in Newton, Kansas, the Courtyard Gallery in Lindsborg, and Gallery XII in Wichita. She has exhibited in local shows including at Wichita City Arts, Mark Arts, Carriage Factory Art Gallery, and Dyck Arboretum. She also teaches mixed media workshops at Wichita City Arts and Carriage Factory Art Gallery. Ms. Haynes holds a degree from Kansas State University in apparel design and an elementary education degree from Friends University. She has studied with mixed-media artists Sandra Duran Wilson and Ardith Goodwin. She lives in Wichita and has recently retired from a twenty-seven-year career in special education.
